With over 30 years experience in successful major gift and capital campaign fundraising, Gail is known for her practical and donor-centered approach to raising money in today’s world. She guides her clients to close transformational gifts that catapult their organizations to new heights.

Gail was recently named #10 on the list of America’s Top Fundraising Experts, published by Philanthropy Media, and her Fired-Up Fundraising Blog is consistently listed among the top fundraising websites in the world. Her best-selling book, Fired-Up Fundraising: Turn Board Passion into Action (Wiley/AFP) has been called the “gold standard guide to building successful fundraising boards.”

A popular and energizing speaker, she keynotes fundraising conferences in the US and abroad. She has taught campaign master classes in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Canada and across the US. She leads energizing fundraising workshops and board retreats around the globe. She particularly enjoys working with nonprofit board members; introducing them to a new perspective on fundraising and how they can be successful.

She is co-founder of the web-based group Capital Campaign Masters, and a contributing author to Capital Campaigns: Strategies That Work – the #1 selling textbook and resource for capital campaigns. She has coached over 40 capital campaigns from LA to Maine, and has personally led 25 campaigns as staff or consultant, raising over $500 million.

Gail launched her fundraising career at Duke University and then went on to lead fundraising at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She received her MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a Business Foundation Fellow. She also received her BA in English with honors at the University of North Carolina, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Kathryn Gamble brings over twenty-five years of high level capital campaign and major gift experience to the team. She’s known for her analytical, strategic, practical and technical expertise in dealing with all aspects of philanthropic management.

After her leadership of the successful campaign at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Kathryn formed her consulting business. She applies her knowledge and experience to create optimal solutions for her clients resulting in successful fundraising. Her clients have ranged from arts to health organizations.

Kathryn began her fundraising career with a local consulting firm learning campaign planning and execution from the ground up. At the North Carolina Museum of Art, she provided leadership for and management of a successful $50.6 million campaign completed in 2013. And, she has held senior management positions at Saint Mary’s School and East Carolina University. She was a member of the UNC-CH development staff during the $450 million Bicentennial Capital Campaign.

You can find Kathryn speaking at the AFP NC Philanthropy Conference on a variety of topics including board development and board engagement in fundraising. She has served as an instructor at North Carolina State University where she has taught courses in the non-profit degree minor.

Kathryn has an MBA from Queens University in Charlotte, NC and is nearing the completion of a Ph.D. in Public Administration at North Carolina State University. Her research focus is in nonprofit governance. She is a member of the Association of Researchers on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA), the Association of Fundraising Professionals, BoardSource, and the Raleigh Professional Women’s Forum.

Adam Hartzell

Adam Hartzell

Adam Hartzell brings a unique perspective to the team having served in executive leadership roles in non-profit organizations, state government, for-profit companies and even political campaigns and media organizations.

He has led successful capital campaigns, doubled operating budgets, successfully guided organizations through transformational change, and led visionary innovations in service delivery. He is our resident expert in strategic planning, innovation and marketing planning. 

Adam began his non-profit career as Executive Director at InterAct, a family services agency in the Triangle.  He also served in lead roles at the NC Department of Justice, the University of North Carolina’s Center for International Understanding, Advance Community Health and at United Healthcare.  

He is committed to mission-driven work, giving voice to the underserved, building collaborative teams, and honing compelling and empowering messages. 

Under his leadership InterAct expanded support from a few hundred donors to over 22,000, and received multiple awards for excellence and growth.  

Among his proudest fundraising accomplishments have been completing multiple capital campaigns raising upwards of $10 million, securing major grants from national foundations and federal sources. 

Adam is an accomplished speaker, having facilitated dozens of board and staff trainings and delivering hundreds of speaking engagements and media appearances. 

Adam received his JD from Campbell University.  Prior to law school, Adam was a journalist in New York City. Today, he lives in Wake County with his wife Melissa and two boys with whom he enjoys soccer, camping, canoeing, theater and going to the beach.

Lyn Maness

Lyn is a non-profit professional with 15 years of experience in fundraising, event planning and communications. She has worked in government, education, the non-profit sector, and for a major trade association in Washington, D.C. For seven years, she was director of the annual fund at Saint Mary’s School where she consistently exceeded fundraising goals and achieved high levels of participation, raising over $1 million in unrestricted gifts.

She is active in the philanthropic and charitable community and has served on the board of several organizations including SAFEchild, the North Carolina Museum of History Associates, William Peace University Board of Visitors, and the Board of Visitors at UNC-CH. She is a current member of the board at the Foundation of Hope and Urban Ministries of Wake County. She is also on the committee to help plan the 50th anniversary of the American Studies program at UNC-CH in the spring of 2019.

Lyn is known for per positive energy, enthusiasm, can-do attitude, attention to detail, and ability to motivate a team. She enjoys the process of helping organizations plan, strategize and achieve realistic goals, while building a strong base of support for an annual fund campaign. She believes that the annual fund is the cornerstone of all fundraising, and that the success of a major gifts campaign is derived in large part from the annual fund. She enjoys the process of “creative brainstorming” and building relationships with volunteers and donors to put the “fun” into fundraising.

She is a graduate of William Peace University and UNC-CH.
